Panzerkampfwagen VIII Maus
| History: The Panzerkampfwagen VIII Maus was a German World War II super-heavy tank completed in late 1944. It is the heaviest fully enclosed armoured fighting vehicle ever built. Only two hulls and one turret were completed before the testing grounds were captured by the advancing Soviet forces. In 1942 Porsche and Krupp developed independently various super-heavy tanks. Hitler decided that Porsche’s model looked promising and therefor further developement started. The engineers had to fight against several problems mainly due to the heavy weight which delayed the production a lot. Development work on the Maus was cancelled by Hitler in October 1943, which was followed in November by the order to stop development of the Maus altogether but to continue the construction of the prototypes. In 1944 both were completed and were undergoing several tests at Kummersdorf. In the last weeks of the war they were captured by the advancing Soviet forces. Some sources state that the Panzerkampfwagen VIII saw combat while defending the facility at Kummersdorf, although the popular version is that it did not. Armament Pos. 1: 12,8-cm-KwK L/55 +coaxial 7,5-cm-KwK Pos. 2: coaxial MG 34 Pos. 3: Nahverteidigungswaffe Pos. 4: pistol port Pos. 5&6: passenger seats 12,8-cm-KwK L/55:  This is one of the most powerful tank cannons in the game, it‘s already used by the Jagdtiger. Combined with the turret and the massive armour it’s difficult to find a weakness for enemy tanks. 7,5-cm-KwK:  This weapon is similar to the cannon of the Pz III Ausf. N which will be effective in dealing with infantry and medium tanks. coaxial MG 34:  As usual this weapon is meant to nail down infantry and light vehicles. Ingame it can be a bit tricky to handle it because it’s operated by Position 2 where you don’t have control over the turret. Nahverteidigungswaffe:  Like most other late German tanks the Maus is equipped with the Nahverteidigungswaffe which helps a lot in close combat situations against infantry. Pistol port:  This can be used for quick defense against infantrymen who try to attack the rear of the Maus. The pistol port offers a MP 40 to deal with them.
